Some People Are More Likely To Lie During Conflict Essay

People are more likely to lie during conflict, after making mistakes, and after being disrespected. One may be more likely to lie during these events to avoid more conflict, avoid admitting mistakes, and to “feel more worthy of admiration and respect” (1.) Many may believe that they can “fix” problems with lies but most of the time, it makes things worse.
Frequently, lying during conflict is easier than telling the truth. The liar deceives the individual and tries to “keep ‘the boat from rocking', hoping everything will pass over, unnoticed”(1.) By lying, the deceiver is able to cut the conflict short and to advert attention to less disagreeable situations. The deceiver then is able to avoid more conflict and possibly fix the conflict already present.

Lying is learned as a survival technique and becomes a habit hard to break. The liar naturally portrays false information to seem more worthy and to gain the respect they believe they deserve. Lying in this situation is egotistical and used solely for the liars benefit.
By lying during these times, many negatives effects can occur. Effects include headaches and increased stress. Although some may lie for good intentions, many lie for self-centered reasons. These self centered reasons are what makes the effects of lying so corrosive (1.) However, lies with well-meanings can also be just as destructive.
Some benefits that one could believe to gain out of lying are avoiding hurting others feelings, avoiding the disappointment of letting another person down, and gaining power. Many lie in belief that it is beneficial although the lie is only “beneficial” to the liar in these circumstances and only if the receiver of the lie never finds out that the information was false.
