What is the defining moment that classifies something as evil? In A Wrinkle in Time there is a character called “IT”. IT puts people into trances so they live simple lives that are all the same and share the same mind, but is this helping the people or is it forcing them to live lives they don 't want to live? The reader is left to choose if this force is trying to help or is pure evil. IT really is an evil force who doesn’t care about the innocent lives it is affecting. Which tells the kids that it is and she knows a lot about the universe and the forces out there. She then tells the kids about the creatures out there that do not care much about others. That is when she says this quote. “Again Mrs. Which 's voice reverberated through the cave. "Therre willl nno llonggerr bee sso manyy pplleasanntt thinggss too llookk att iff rressponssible ppeoplle ddo nnott ddoo ssomethingg abboutt thee unnppleassanntt oness.”(L’Engle) Mrs Which has worked with evil forces before, so the kids are willing to believe her when she states that something is evil and that it must be stopped. She is unable to physically help them, but she is able to strengthen them mentally. This quote stuck out to me because of the maturity of it and how well thought out the explanation is. IT is evil because Calvin was able to sense it when he was first shown the Dark Thing. “Calvin turned, rejecting the dark Thing that blotted out the light of the stars. "Make it go away, Mrs. Whatsit," he whispered. "Make it go away. It 's evil"(L’Engle) Calvin had never been shown the Dark Thing before, but the instance he saw it he knew that it was an evil force that was out to get them. The closest thing Calvin had ever experienced that was close to evil was his horrible mother, but he knew that the Dark Thing was even worse than
