In the article “Death at a Penn State Fraternity” by Caitlin Flanagan, the tragic story of Beta Theta Pi pledge Timothy Piazza’s last moments are recounted in great detail. Throughout the analysis of the situation, Flanagan subjects her audience to a substantial amount of heartbreaking details, as well as her opinion and speculation. Flanagan’s purpose in her writing of this article is to display the message that fraternity hazing is apart of a much greater problem in the fraternal system. She does this in a number of ways, including her interviews with other frat brothers such as Kordel Davis, and her stringent analyzation of Greek Life as a whole. What happened to Tim Piazza is in no way okay.
Becoming a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has been an unchanging aspirtaion of mine. From a young age I was presented with Delta women who are an exstordonary representation of what is means to wear the letters. These women have been my role models, mentors, and also my spiritual, and emotional guides. I am intrested in becoming a member of this soroity because I yearn to be surrounded by motivated, intellegent,and dedicated women. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, as well as its members, possess attributes which I consider to be pivital in the development of a sense of self and community.
Sparta was a society in which war was at its center. This militaristic lifestyle translated into the role of women being higher than that of other Greek women such as the Athenians. When a fellow Greek women asked the Spartan queen Gorgo, “Why is it that only Spartan women can rule men?” she replied, “Because we are the only women who give birth to men.”
Sparta and Athens are the most famous city-states in Greece. The two cities are governed differently regarding social life, political system, education, economy, and religious view. In the ancient period, the role of women differed from one country to they other based on the differences in government's system. Mainly, the role of women was differnce between athens and sparta. Moreover, both have different setups in women’s power and women’s right.
Although our organization’s extensive history of academic accomplishment, the previous year was particularly one in terms of academic improvement. At the start of the 2016 year, our fraternity’s Academic Committee, led by our organization’s Vice President of Development, implemented new academic policies and helped modify academic improvement plans for each individual member. We believe the changes to the new academic policies will help us improve our GPA. The improvement plans set for each member focused on
For a student to obtain success as they have come to know, they believe conformity is of the utmost importance. This then plays into the desire to fit in. In the case of The Citadel, because they must conform to certain personality changes, this sacrifice is often toxic. Developed in part due to the four-class system, first-year student who are referred to as “knobs” take the brute force of the ritualistic hazing. This group of students are often tortured relentlessly until they either quit, conform, or wait it out until the first year is over.

I understand that not all brotherhoods are especially positive and have approbatory aims. For instance being part of a gang may mean you have a support system and are part of a brotherhood, but it does not mean you are bettering yourself. One other main reason why I have a desire to become a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity is because I want to have positive impact on the community around me, whether it be Temple University’s community or the general Philadelphia area. It would bring me great joy to be a part of an Alpha Phi Alpha project that would include reaching out to the youth of Philadelphia.
Starting college is a stressful process and a big change. College students worry about meeting tons of people and making new friends. Some students decide to go through sorority recruitment in order to find lifelong friends and sisters. Others go through recruitment to find people who accept them for being unique. College students find their home when finishing sorority recruitment.

It would be an honor to be among the exemplary students who represent the National Honor Society. The first time I heard about NHS was in the second semester of my freshman year. Ever since then I pushed myself to work hard. Thinking that by pushing myself harder to get that A in that one academically challenging class, putting on a smile every day, and getting better at time management while displaying character, scholarship, leadership, and service will help me to become an NHS student who represents the ideology of the club. In many environments, in and out of school, I believe I display those qualities.
Another example of a teen film that institutes a similar stereotypical high school social hierarchy is the well-known movie, Mean Girls. Cady Heron, who lived her first 15 years in the African jungle, being home-schooled and living only with her parents, never knew what "high school" meant, until moving out of Africa and enrolling in a real school. She instantly becomes friends with two teenagers, Damian and Janis, who were in the "out crowd", as opposed to the “Plastics”, which consists of Regina, the unofficial leader, Gretchen and Karen, her followers, all of whom are gorgeous and popular. For example, some of the current requirements are service hours, GPA, attendance and approvals. Every school have rules and consequences set to the Greek system. The fraternities and sororities sometime do try to reduce incidents that can affect them. Such as in parties and events where alcohol is involved most of us have bystanders or sober friends and drivers. And in fraternities there are members who agree to stay sober and do the patrolling at the parties for any suspicious or harmful activities.
Explain your interest in joining Phi Delta Epsilon-MA Alpha Chapter. * I want to join Phi Delta Epsilon because it would provide me the chance to build lifelong connections and gain networking opportunities. Most importantly, I see myself forming a bond with other members, studying and sharing memories of what it’s like to be a premedical student at UMass Boston. The ability to connect, strive for success and learning from others with the same goal to attend medical school is what I’m truly seeking as a hopeful applicant of PhiDE. Joining the fraternity is the beginning phase of my strenuous road to become a successful physician.
Meaghan Ramsey's TED Talk "Why thinking you're ugly is bad for you" is a powerful speech about low body confidence. Ramsey talks about how society's pressure to be perfect is one of the main reason for young girls' (and boys') low body confidence and how these feelings of low esteem can impact their lives and futures. I chose to analyze this speech because I have experienced low body confidence and I have felt those feelings of low self-esteem. In Meaghan Ramsey's speech "Why thinking you're ugly is bad for you", she discusses how low body confidence is undermining academic achievement, damaging health, and limiting the economic potential of today's youth who are growing up in a world of social media. Ramsey has a strong start to her speech, using a photo and a story about her niece to gain the attention of the audience.
