Sorry to Disrupt the Peace, written by Patty Yumi Cottrell, is the one novel that the readers will definitely question about the protagonist, Helen Moran, and have to try hard to understand her character. Helen is complicated; not only her mind but also her action. Every action she has done seem to be useless and usually misdirected. Also, she has different concept about herself differ from other people. She is categorized in lacking internal consistency of narrative. She has “no examples, or contain unexplained or unrecognized contradictory statements.” (Psychol, 2011) In the other words, she does not have any memories with her birth parent so she cannot give any certain situation about them to support her personal narrative.
The third, flexibility of the narrative is considered in “the person’s ability to view issues as others might see them.” This level is separated in two kinds: flexible and inflexible adoption narrative. Flexible adoption narrative understand “the complex nature of issues and relationships.” They just leave all things behind and live their lives. Inflexible adoption narrative “adheres rigidly to their story line and consider relationships from one vantage point, their own: ‘They chose for me not to be a part of their lives, I am honoring their wishes.’” (Psychol, 2011) Related to Helen, we might say that she has flexible adoption narrative.
