The Voyage for the New Worlds
For centuries human kind has looked to the stars, for answers to the world, the galaxy, the universe, life, and now humans look to making a new home on another planet to help solve problems that they face on their home planet. With the problems Earth faces and a universe filled with planets and resources, a solution can be formed from exploration and the idea of colonization of space. Today’s culture has science fiction turning into non-fiction, and even using ideas and theories from fiction into actual science, the younger generation dreams of reaching pass the stars. Those in the scientific community need to see that space colonization is something that needs to continue developing and that it will help humanity survive and prosper in the future.
Through space exploration and colonization, humanity can logically see that they can gain valuable resources, information, and advancements in technology. These benefits can help improve humanities society and Earth in the end, the benefits would allow humans to gain understanding of the ecosystem and its complexity. In the article Space Colonization-Benefits for the World by W.H. Siegfried talks about some of those benefits, mainly most of these benefits are toward the advancements of technology such as communication, making metals and other resources stronger, but mainly these advancements are in waste management, energy, life expectancy or medical advancements, production of food, and water purification. Terraforming is planetary engineering, meaning that it influences the environment of a planet to be habitable for complex organisms. The benefit terraforming has is the chance to actually see the starting and creation of an ecosystem that can sustain complex life such as humans, plants, and multiple animals, having that data and information humans can then develop a plan to fix certain problems and change Earths ecosystem to be more sustainable, including fixing damage done to it. Mr. Schwartz talks about terraforming in their paper On The Moral Permissibility Of Terraforming in the paper he states that terraforming is something that should be done and that humanity can gain a lot in environmental education. The article states “Terraforming another planet would provide valuable lessons for the intelligent management of Earth’s biosphere” (Schwartz, 27). This helps with the claim that terraforming can actually provide good information on the biological make up of a working, livable ecosystem. Some steps have already been taken to help with terraforming with discussing the plan for planting plants on mars. From the article Stages in Terraforming of Mars: the Transition to Flowering Plants, it talks about how Mars has low oxygen, which would make it hard for plants to grow. In the
