Islam is a monotheistic religion in which the g-d is called Allah. The worshipers of Allah are called muslims. Islam started at about 613 CE, that was when the Islamic prophet Muhammad started to share unknown information about Islam and the god Allah. Muhammad is the Islamic prophet and messenger of God. Muhammad, almost all the way around the world, thought to be the last prophet sent down by God. Even though Muslims is thought to be a prophet and messenger non-muslims think of him just as the founder of Islam. Whenever Muslims speak of Muhammad the must say the phrase “peace be upon him”. The translation of “The Quran” is “the recitation”. The chapters of the Quran are called suras, also the verses are called ayahs. Allah gradually told Muhammad the information that is in the Quran over 23 years. Gabriel is the angel that told Muhammad the information that he had got from Allah. Muhammad got his first message from Gabriel on the 22 of December in 609 CE and his last on the same day in 632 CE. The Quran is proof that Muhammad had a prophethood. Muslims consider that the Quran is the only book that is protected by g-d. In the month of Ramadan, Muslims normally complete reading the entire Quran while they are doing Tarawih prayers. Muslims are 23% of the world and that is about 1.6 billion people. 70-90% of Muslims are Sunni Islam, 10-20% of Muslims are Shia Islam. 13% of Muslims live in Indonesia, the largest percentage of Muslims in a country is 25% in South Asia.
Islam has many famous buildings or mosques. These are only a few of them The Dome of the Rock, Sixty Dome Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque, and Fortress of Al-Ukhaidir.
The Dome of the Rock is located in Jerusalem in 691 CE. The Dome of the Rock is one of the oldest buildings in Islamic architecture. It is sometimes called one of “Jerusalem’s most recognizable landmark.”(From The Dome of the Rock article on Wikipedia) The Dome of the Rock’s architecture has been put into many other buildings like the Church of St. Giacomo.
