In the community of Springdale, there are three different shopping areas. These shopping areas include: Springdale Mall, West Mall, and the Downtown shopping area. A telephone survey was conducted in order to better understand the shopping habits and demographics of those who shop in Springdale. There were 150 participants in this survey who were asked questions regarding their shopping habits and preferences, what they perceived as strengths or weaknesses for each of the shopping areas, and also some personal information.

They were labeled as 1) like very much, 2) like, 3) neutral, 4) dislike, and 5) dislike very much. Three separate frequency distributions were calculated to show the general attitudes towards the shopping areas. Of the three shopping areas, Springdale Mall had the most shoppers reporting a “like very much” and “like” as well as few “dislike” or “very dislike” opinions. The West Mall had the least amount of “like very much” and “like” and also a large amount of “neutral” feeling towards it. 3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each area? The survey further asked the participants what center the best fit for their needs based on eight different criteria. The results are displayed below in figure 4:
As displayed by the graph, the shopping center that was considered the best place for bargains and good prices was the West Mall. Coincidentally, it had a low rating of cleanliness, quality, and variety as compared to the other centers. The Downtown shopping center had a low rating of most criteria with a slight improvement over West Mall in the best help criteria. With the exception of best prices and bargains, Springdale scored a best fit rating for many variables, including best quality, best exchanges, best cleanliness, best variety, and best hours.
4. What are the demographics of the shoppers in relation to gender, education, marital status, household size, and age?
Finally, they survey sought to obtain the demographics of the individuals who shop at the three Springdale shopping centers. The survey gathered the participants’ gender, education, marital status, household size, and age. Figure
