Every photograph accommodates a piece of the photographer’s identity within the picture. Photographers explore the Australian identity throughout their photos by using themselves and their own identity as a basis. Ideas of this are outlined in the work of Max Dupain, Rosemary Laing and Trent Parke. They have represented Australian individuality by using various techniques to create their photographs. The artists above and how their work resembles Australia, will be explored within this essay.
John Brack was not only one of Australia’s most notorious artists through the artwork in which he created, but was also a pioneer for many art forms today, that embody everyday elements of the Australian people in a modern artistic form. One of the biggest takeaways I got from learning about Brack was his participation and movement of the antipodean art group. The antipodeans were a group of seven modern Australian painters who included Charles Blackman, Arthur Boyd, David Boyd, Robert Dickerson, John Perceval, Clifton Pugh and John Brack. Assignment C There is much more to art than what one sees at first glance. In the last two weeks reading assignments I have learned that there is much more to art than nicely arranging colors and shapes to create a scene for someone to enjoy. Not only in the color important but the intensity, position, size, direction, pattern, and texture all add to the experience of studying art. I had known of these concepts before but know have a much more profound understanding of them that will allow me to but understand and interept ideas that an artist is trying to portray in his piece.

We, as a nation, believe that we are compassionate, resilient, accepting and that in times of need we will come together and unite as one. This is the true Australian identity. However, from other countries perspectives, Us, Australians are conveyed as being racist, disrespectable and that we are not accepting.
On Thursday, the 25th of October, I attended the opening reception for Gregory Alan Smith’s “Antithesis”. I chose to attend this art show to view artwork that I’ve never seen before. I observed many sculptures hanging from the ceiling and attached to the side of the walls. In my opinion, the sculptures were a mixture of cool and warm colors. I noticed most of the art work had some neutral colors involved in them.

In the essay “Is Art a Waste of Time?” by Ryhs Southan he discusses the purpose of art and explains the group, Effective Altruism. The main argument is that Effective Altruism do not agree with using resources and time on artwork. Effective Altruism is against artwork the resources, and time it uses up that do not contribute to the poor.

Often times, we can see lots of people debating whether art is important or not. This happened because the lack of exposure and knowledge that has been taught to them. Art can help to shape the society and affect the society to broaden their view of perspective in life by referring on the artworks because each work of art can give different meanings to life.
