Standardized tests have existed for hundreds of years. The assessment was first implemented in the U.S. in the 1800s. Teachers delivered the test as an oral exam. In 1845, a gentleman named Horace Mann changed the oral exam to a written one (Brown, 2019). Mann believed it would be a more effective way of assessing students. This evaluation became more attractive to the public education system at the beginning of the 20th century because of systematic and reliable testing (Brown, 2019). The tests enabled teachers or schools to separate students who performed poorly from students who performed well. Accelerated and low-income students perform differently on assessments because of quality education. Accelerated students performed well on the standardized assessment. Standardized testing has been a critical contributor to the American Schooling program (Vaselak, 2021). From a Nation at Risk in 1983 to No child left behind (NCLB) in 2002 to 2015's Every Child Succeeds Act (ESSA) and common core state standards (CCSS), standardized testing has developed a foundation of public education across the United States (Vaselak, 2021).
Standardized tests are used to evaluate children using a set of numbered elements and are a consistent evaluation method. The standards are used to compare the results of people taking the tests. The evaluation comprises the same elements and provides the same task and answer but in a different order. Because of teacher behavior and commitment, standardized tests affect accountability, testing policy, and work environments (Youn, 2019). In addition, assessment pressures undermine the professional independence of teachers, reducing their sense of professional community and engagement (Youn,
