Introduction

“There are several reasons why standardized tests are used. They can test for readiness of a certain academic level, college readiness, or course placement”(Mooney 10). Standardized tests have been seen for decades. The government of a certain region often creates the tests. Then, the tests can be turned in and the government can judge the educational level of their region by looking at the results. But these conclusions are not always fair. There are several factors, including race and wealth, that impact a child’s test score on standardized tests. They may not do so well, and consequences are being splashed on the teachers as a result. “Studies have shown that High School GPA will indicate more college success than the ACT or SAT. High school GPA is a measure of a combined average within all the student’s classes, including Science, Social Studies, and Electives, while the ACT and SAT sometimes measure more than just Reading or Math, but the test varies per state, and for the most part, just Reading and Math are tested. This can prove readiness for those who are taking a career path towards Science, History, Music, or even Art.
While this may work out, the competition has more support. George Walker Bush signed the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB) to promote standardized testing to evaluate students. “Many members of Congress supported NCLB, and the act remains in place to this day(Kress).” Congress gets to choose what to support, and the support for this testing act was so high in 2001 and has remained in place and it vehemently stressed the need for standardized tests, and the act dictates the way we see education to this
