What is Identities Under Siege: Lori A. Saffin describe it as Violence Against Transpersons of Color, which, result in victims being murdered and being imprisoned, which is mostly, trans women of color that have the greatest chance of coming in contact with systems of oppression (162). Some communities are racist and homophobic and often do not want trans women of color in their communities, which is a concern because their gender nonconformity keep them from getting gainful employment or education and make them a target for violence. There is also a risk of transpersons of Color coming in contact with different sexual diseases, rape, robbery and physical threats, because of the economic or the communities that they had to live in. In the black communities they are not looking at it as prejudices but as a survival skill for the black race (167). The LGBT and the African American have strong similaries with the long struggle for equality.
In Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, two characters are chasing their dream. They run into societal conflicts that do not allow them to reach their goal in life. In the novel, there is a range of categories that all the characters fit under. The category that has the most characters in it is bullied. The reader can feel sorry for the characters who are bullied, which are Curley’s wife and Crooks.
College students are often worrying too much about becoming wealthy, rather than worrying about finding a career they love to perform in the future. Many students feel they need to have their entire life figured out and only take classes that will advance them or provide a base to make wealth. While these classes are important, taking elective classes are also necessary to experience new things and open up their minds. When people think about high school students, they may imagine carefree teens who seem to have little to concern themselves with, except for petty drama within their social groups. However, students are pushed with expectations of achieving stellar grades and being accepted into the colleges of their, or their parents’ dreams. High school shouldn’t be about getting the best grades, or even stressing over being considered popular. Stephen King himself even said, “Let’s face it. No kid in high school feels as though the fit in.”
As a Biracial woman who is also Bisexual, intersectionality and diversity are extremely important to me. As I matured, my ethnicity became increasingly important to me. Being biracial can be extremely isolating, and there can be a frequent feeling of not fitting in. I often feel stuck between two worlds, Black and White, Gay and Straight. As I grew up, I felt out of place around family, and unsure about my place in the world.

Both of my parents were born in Mexico, and I was born in the United States, so I am considered American of Mexican descent. We are also classified as many others names including Hispanic, Latino, and Chicano.
Just like the movie’s title, Pride, the entire movie tells the story of homosexual people coming out of their shells to embrace and be proud of their real identities and their achievements. The article written by Mary Bernstein argues that “identity” has been causally interpreted that its meaning has been obsured. Bernstein discusses identity from three different aspects: identity for empowerment, identity as a goal, and identity as strategy. The movie supports the use of identity as a goal and empowerment as described in Bernstein’s analysis as an effective movement tactic since ultimately the gay pride movement achieved success.
Throughout my life I have come from and created a few identities for myself. Perhaps, the most dominant identities that have been apart of my life are being an athlete and being a family orientated man. In this paper I will write about how my identities have shaped my life. The short stories "Totem," by Thomas King, and "Identities," by W.D. Valgardson, both explore how people are judged and treated differently because of their identity, color of their skin, and culture background. This paper will discuss the ways in which the authors engage with the themes of judgement and discrimination. In the short story, "Totem" shows how racism causes people to treat culture and identity differently. Totem took place in the Southwest Alberta Gallery and Prairie Museum.
I am an international student from Vietnam who came to the United States to pursue higher education. I was brought up in a very unique culture and family traditions, and this has had a strong influence on my beliefs and mindsets.
