More specifically to the role mentioned prior within this paper, a district manager oversees the operations of multiple stores within a given region. A district manager for Starbucks must ensure employees are performing at a satisfactory rate, providing quality coffee and service at an expeditious rate, while establishing goals and challenges to improve employees and the stores performance. District managers are chosen internally, promoting store managers to the next tier of the management hierarchy. What qualifies a store manager to become a district manager is the knowledge and ability to allow a store to not only meet but exceed the performance and standards set by the district manager on a consistent basis. Once a manager can prove they can exceed the standards and performance of one store, they may be promoted to oversee the operations of several stores and set out their own standards and expectations as a guideline for the stores and employees under them to adhere to.
