Starburst were created in 1960 in the United Kingdom and were originally called Opal Fruits. Five years later they entered the U.S. under the name we know them as now. Starburst have been around for many years. They are hard, chewy, and colorful. Kids love the because of the color, teens love them because of the juicy flavors. The four original flavors are Strawberry, Lemon, Orange, and Lime. In 2010 they created more flavors such as Watermelon, Cherry, Fruit Punch, and Green Apple. Starburst candies were invented by Peter Pfeffer. In 1967 Starburst came into the United States.

Peter Pfeffer created them when he went into a contest and won $5000.00 which was a lot of cash back then especially if you were poor then you needed the money. He originally called them Opal Fruits. In 1961 he created four flavors. Strawberry, Lemon, Orange, and Lime. He later then interduce them to a company names Mars, then a few years later they shared them to the United Kingdom. When they shared them to the U.S they changed the name to Starburst. Starburst were very popular back then. After a couple years the United States made new flavors such as Kiwi Banana, Plum, Mango, Apple, Tropical Punch and Blue Raspberry. After that they finally replaced Lime with Cherry. Although the wax paper is an odd way to package the starburst, they have been doing it for years. The wax paper, although very thin, gives the starburst a layer of protection. The paper wraps around the candy giving it enough support that it will maintain the ideal starburst shape. If the starburst were not individually wrapped, like life savers, it would cause them to form a big glob of candy, mixing all of the flavors. If the candies were not wrapped individually and then packaged, then they would have to stay at a constantly cold temperature. If they stayed at this constantly cold temperature, then they would have a chance of not making a big glob of mixed
