Twizzlers. I was in fifth grade when I tried Twizzlers for the first time. I hated them with passion. I could not stand them. Every time I saw someone eating Twizzlers, it made my stomach turn. No matter how often I tried to avoid them, they were always there. People give them out at birthday parties. They get put into my Halloween and Easter baskets. Sometimes my friends and family would often snack on them. I always tried to like them, but every time it ended with me taking one bite and immediately spitting it out. Of course, Twizzlers can’t stay the same as when they were first made. They were created almost one hundred years ago. But, even with all the different types and flavors of Twizzlers, I never found a way to enjoy them. It felt like eating plastic and, obviously, that did not sound appealing to me. I gave up testing them in fifth grade and never tried them again until sophomore year. I gave it yet another try. I didn’t expect too much. It was a tolerable one. It felt waxy and had that weird, almost plastic taste, but I actually did not mind it. I didn’t love them, but my attitude toward them changed. I still have one every so often. I can’t eat more than one a day, but I can eat one a day. It might not seem like a lot, but with time, I was able to change my opinion on Twizzlers, even if it was the slightest bit. The opinion that I had of them at ten years old isn’t going to be the same one I have now at seventeen. I have completely different taste buds and have experienced different things.
