There are explanations of why people eating insects in the United States is uncommon. In the articles, “Would You Eat This?” and “GROSS! YUCK! That is a great idea! EW!” To begin with, many people in the US have never tried eating insects, so it is very uncommon in the United States. In this article, “Would You Eat This?” the author Kristin Lewis describes the insects as having a delicious taste and are also very nutritious (22). This proves that insects are very good for your body and have a good flavor. Overall, people in the United States have never had a relationship with eating insects as food. Equally, in other countries, it is common for people to eat bugs. The same articles, “Would You Eat This?” and “GROSS! YUCK! That is a great idea! Lewis explains “Many insects are also gluten free -- making insects-based flour an ideal baking ingredient for those with gluten allergies” (25). This implies that using insects in various ingredients can be beneficial for people with gluten allergies. It is predicted that there will be approximately 9.8 billion people living on Earth by 2050 (Lewis 25). This brings notice that to be able to feed all the people will require a significant amount of increase in our food supply, so bringing insects into our diet might actually be a positive solution.
