Ew!” and the video, Edible Insects, discusses why eating insects in America is so uncommon. To begin with, eating bugs in America is often seen as disgusting or used as a challenge. In the article “Would you Eat This?” by Kristin Lewis, explains how that if the insects are raised, cleaned, and cooked carefully, they are perfectly fine to eat (24). This confirms that bugs are entirely okay to eat when prepared properly. This exemplifies how American companies are now trying to market off of the recent craze to buy bug-containing products. Over time, if you give food a chance, then you might like it (Lewis 26). This suggests that over time, people may become more open to letting insects into their diet. Consequently, when hunter-gatherers first arrived in North Europe the land was mostly frozen, leading them to rely on different sources of protein, like meat and fish, so eating insects went out of flavor (Lewis 22). This explains why eating bugs in Europe is uncommon. When Europeans arrived in the Americas, they also brought their food preferences with them (Lewis 22). This describes the reason why eating insects is so uncommon in the Americas. The U.S. also doesn't have a safe way to support farming bugs (Lewis 24). This illustrates how since America doesn’t have a system to farm insects, it has severely slowed the process of making bugs a common delicacy in the U.S. Insects are also extremely nutritious
