We can all agree starting a business today is no simple task even with the digital tech help and social media, so you can only imagine how difficult it must have been starting a business in the early 1900’s. This is why the incredible success of 7-11 is nothing short of inspirational. In the year 1927 a man by the name of Joe Thompson composed an idea that would ultimately sprout into the number #1 convenience store in the world. At the time Thompson had another vision for his would-be convenient store. Thompson began the business by selling ice products at the local ice docks, surely humble beginnings. As the consumers need for convenient shopping grew, so did his company. He started to expand his company to new suburbs and areas too small for a supermarket. By 1946 his company would be named 7-11 because of his 7am to 11pm hours of operation. In the early 60’s Joe would find himself in command over 1,000 stores. By the 1989 fiscal year 7-11 would be operating in the far reaches of Asia; Singapore, Taiwan, and the Philippines are among the most popular. Fast-forward to 2016 and 7-11 is the world’s largest operator, franchisor, and licensor of convenience stores with over 55,000 outlets across 18 countries and 8,600 stores in the United States and Canada alone. 7-11 is focused mainly on providing a broad selection of fresh high-quality products and services at everyday fair prices, a speedy transaction and a clean friendly shopping environment. 7-11 holds a special place in the hearts of all those who just love a cold beverage on a hot summer day.
