State Center Redevelopment in Baltimore In Baltimore, there is currently a question of whether they should redevelop the state center. The state center is the place where employment takes place. The state center has been around for a long time and there are people arguing for and against the redevelopments. Today, Governor Larry Hogan is planning to redevelop the state center, but there are oppositions to his plan. In Maryland, there are positive and negative reasons for the redevelopment of the state center. Should the state center be redeveloped in Baltimore? The first argument is the positive reasons for the redevelopment of the state center. According to Michael Dresser, “The plan developed after lengthy negotiations with surrounding neighborhood organizations envisioned a mixed-use development with state offices, retail stores and residential units” (Dresser). According to Natalie Sherman, she states that there would be more crimes and the destruction of nearby houses (Sherman). The expansion of the state center means acres of land needs to be used. This project will affect small neighborhoods and the economy in Maryland. Also, the plan of constructing an arena is not as serious (Sherman). The construction of useless buildings will create no reasons to visit the state center. In addition, the economy and businesses would be destroyed. Finally, she states that “State analysts in 2015 said the state had two other alternatives: renovate the state offices for more than $200 million or relocate workers” (Sherman). Both of these options will worry communities around the state center. If they decide to relocate, all of the people working will have to move. Also, if they decided to renovate the state center, this will be a huge impact on the
