The Republican Party was committed to restricting the growth of slavery, and its victory in the election of 1860 was the trigger for secession acts by Southern states. The debate before 1860 was mainly focused on the Western territories, especially Kansas and the popular sovereignty controversy. Lincoln was nominated as the Republican candidate for president in the election of 1860. Lincoln was opposed to the expansion of slavery into new areas, but held that the federal government was prevented by the Constitution from banning slavery in states where it already existed. His plan was to halt the spread of slavery, and to offer monetary compensation to slave-owners in states that agreed to end slavery (see Compensated emancipation).
Kindness is one trait every individual desires to be treated with by others. It is , after all, the state of warm welcoming that helps us assimilate in a society. Besides, no one likes the feeling of getting rejected by a particular group based on their different backgrounds, culture, physique and/or experiences. The only way that perhaps heels this rejection ,due to the difference's in an individual, are the acts of when an another individual presents and treats others with their acts of benevolence. This act then also sheds a new light on an other individual's perspective, and gives them the knowledge to assert what they think is right for them to obtain their objectives.
The world, as well as ourselves, can become confident. I will encourage scholarship, leadership, and good citizenship with my school and community. With my hardwork, not only shall I benefit, but all that I help shall be benefited as well.
In 2013, when Professor George Saunders delivered his commencement speech at Syracuse University he had one goal in mind, to inspire. Saunders didn’t want to get up in front of the audience and give a long boring speech, but instead he wanted to speak of useful information that graduates would remember for the rest of their lives. He wanted to use his time to teach the audience about the importance of spreading love and kindness. Saunders accurately argues in his speech that our society suffers from selfishness and the obsession of succeeding; he uses personal stories, questions/answer appeals and informal diction to help inform that if we allow ourselves to be cured of these illnesses we can open the door to all the love and kindness we have to offer.

The Oklahoma FFA Association has played a major role in my life. From the day I walked into my high school 's Ag room, I fell in love with the organization. I have always dreamt of becoming a state officer, and leading thousands of others. Because I am a senior this year, I am finally eligible to run for a state office position. Beginning in February, I will campaign and prepare so that I can hopefully be elected for a position this coming May.
Even the littlest things can show kindness. From pulling over on the side of the road or helping a classmate to raising 40million dollars, kindness is everywhere. The University of Oklahoma has one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. Everybody that attends the University of Oklahoma is considered part of the “OU Family”. One thing that has significant importance to the “OU Family” is the involvement with the university and their community. Everybody should be able to contribute to their community. I am the first ever Student Volunteer at Integris Baptist Medical Center; Bennett Fertility Clinic in Oklahoma City.
Lastly, as a vice president of the Lions Club, I took part in providing eye screening for students in underserved schools. Recently, I met an employee of U of M Dearborn who brought his children to one of our events. He gratefully thanked us because his son obtained a pair of glasses after being screened and referred by our club. He said, “ My son has no headaches now and can see better.” Being told this filled me with a great sense of compassion towards those in need and opened my eyes as to how a small act of kindness can greatly impact someone 's quality of life.
I started helping my family more without being asked; helping out others was something that gave me joy and felt content. If more people become empathetic toward the world around us, international problems will be solved, more kindness will be shed upon others, and empathy can create a world that everyone dreams of. Empathy changed the way I viewed many things; all in all, I became a more positive person. The art of compassion
One thing I know that sets me apart from other candidates applying to the University of California is that my actions have always been the way I express who I am.
