Governor's School (Engineering/Technology) Response- In all learning aspects of my life, I live by the principle that the exchange of knowledge insinuates a mutual growth. As people assist each other in developing personal experiences, they both growth in the expansion of perspective. That is precisely the reason why I would like to attend the Governor’s School of Engineering and Technology.
Over my short, seventeen-year lifetime, I have had passions in many areas, from geography to soccer to leadership. However, as I have grown older, I have had a growing passion for the schools in my area because they taught me everything that I know and have given me all the opportunities that I have taken advantage of. Because of this growing passion, I became involved in two very important organizations that influence the future of the Sartell – St. Stephen School District: the Community Schools Planning Initiative and the Sartell – St. Stephen Board Of Education. The Community Schools Planning Initiative was launched at the start of 2015 in order to come up with a vision for the future of the Sartell – St. Stephen School District and a plan to match that
Moving on to my sophomore year, I went to three summer camps JROTC related. Two from school and another out of state camp. I went to JCLC an enlisted/fun camp and I learned how to repeal and how to brainstorm with a team in order to finish the task at hand. I also learned how to take charge of a platoon
It has truly been an honor to serve in NJHS. I have learned many key characteristics that will help guide my life in the future. Planning events and volunteering in them have helped me create stronger bonds with my peers and fun memories to look back on. I was allowed the privilege to be apart of such an awarding society.
The first year, the Science National Honor Society inducted eight students, including myself. As the first President of the Society, my officers and I developed a weekly peer tutoring schedule in the four main science courses offered at our school, a yearly engineer-off (a competition where students are tasked to produce a specific model and compete to see whose design is the most creative and efficient at the assigned task), and sponsored events for teachers to demonstrate engaging science experiments to students. Additionally, all the officers designed presentations pertaining to various scientific careers, and inspired members to explore further into STEM related
I regard the STEM Academy as an extremely positive program that will significantly help my peers and myself in the future. Science has many stimulating topics that have helped our world to advance. The STEM program will definitely push me towards the science aspects of life, allowing me to become more educated in the subject. I hope to be able to join the STEM academy to gain more knowledge in the fields of science and math, to be able to collaborate with others more efficiently, work independently, and to be triumphant in being the best student I can. I want to achieve beyond what is expected in an average student and expand on all my skills.
I would like to become an active member of Carrboro High School’s National Honor Society in order to benefit my community through service. I am immensely committed to serving and improving my community, as I have made distinctly clear with my 143 service hours. Through these service hours, I have focused on the improvement of the future community by helping disenfranchised refugee children coming from horrible living conditions in Western Africa, by teaching children about biology, chemistry, and scientific history, by preparing freshmen for their high school careers, by raising money to protect and aid voiceless animals hurt in car crashes and other human infringements, and by creating rain gardens, planting food crops, and decreasing Carrboro High School’s environmental
It has been been a goal of mine to attend the United States Naval Academy after visiting Annapolis with my grandparents in 2012. Since visiting the Naval Academy I knew that I wanted to serve America with the utmost honor and integrity. The Naval Academy Summer Seminar would give me the ability to hone my leadership skills and give me valuable experience that I could use as a Navy Midshipman and throughout life. This summer experience is an opportunity of a lifetime because it will allow me to understand and benefit from the mental and physical challenges the academy provides. Becoming a member of the National Honor Society has been a goal I set for myself since I was a student in middle school. I have been greatly looking forward to this moment for a very long time. I prepared early by joining naval junior reserve officer training corps(NJROTC) my freshman year of highschool. I joined and competed in many activities such as air rifle, armed drill exhibition, chain gang, community service, and orienteering. The unit taught me discipline and how to become a leader. It gave me the advantage I desired to be one step closer to becoming a Marine.
Last 2 months, I have learned a lot of stuff that I was not familiar with. I never learned how to think critically and did not know about elements of thought. I am glad I got an opportunity to attend the Command and General Staff Officer Course because I got to meet a lot of people with different branch, background and experiences. More importantly, I got to learn from others with a lot of experience and also, I get to share my knowledge and experience. The CGSOC made me think differently compare to prior to the attendance.
STEM disciplines require an immense amount of work and effort to succeed for most students. From my personal experience, on average, as an undergraduate student pursuing a Mathematics degree, I have taken four, five unit courses in my field per semester. Often I was overwhelmed by how many different concepts I had to learn simultaneously and became concerned that I would accidentally apply wrong formulas or techniques in my varying courses. Along with class stress, there are also additional components that interfere with success in a STEM discipline. Along with being deployed some of my learned skills were acquired when I was assigned as a Fury FSC retention NCO two years ago, and my job was to educate soldiers about what they qualified for and other entitlements. Even though the soldier already knew the skills needed in the Army and had knowledge of the Army, I still had to persuade individuals to why they should reenlist. This required some craftiness on my part as some of these soldiers needed to hear something that they haven't heard
