However, as time passed I acquired a sense of responsibility to help my community out. The “End of Year” report also encourages members of the unit to assist in the community. Some people are involved in the Ambulance Corps, Firehouse, Police Department, Youth Court,etc. When we go to certain community service events, cadets might like that event a lot. For example, a cadet might volunteer at the local thrift store and love the atmosphere.
I demonstrate my outstanding achievements in service through the clubs and teams I participate in. I’ve organized many teen outreach events targeted towards middle and high schoolers such as lock-ins and dances, but I have also organized community service events targeted for the whole base, for example barbeques. A recent example of this would be the Ramstein Color Run taking place next month. Being a Girl Scout for 7 years taught me to appreciate and enjoy taking action in the community. In middle school and high school, almost every club I was in had to do with serving the community. It has always been something I enjoyed doing. I live in Johnstown, a city where many of the families are in poverty. One of my school 's biggest projects was Trojan Family Christmas, which was a charity event sponsored by Kiwanis Club through our Key Club that ensured children within my school district got at least one present. The members of Key Club, which included myself, put together different activities for the children, which included making Christmas ornaments and hot chocolate.
My desire to serve others was influenced by my brother. He continually gave to others while battling cancer. I am continuing his legacy by serving at local schools and church. I volunteer for Kids Crossing, at church which is a program that allows parents to drop their children off to an age appropriate Bible study. When you are involved in the community you are able to accomplish many goals and help a lot of people who are in need. Soup kitchens, donations or habitat for humanity are things that are little to us, but could change a person 's life. Usually my sisters and I pick out all of the clothes that we cannot fit anymore and put them in one of the clothing recycles that are around our town. Something big that I would like to do is to get everyone in my neighborhood to donate everything that they can not fit anymore or not interested in to douglass or even goodwill. Volunteering within school and my community has provided me with a unique set of personal skills and useful experience that will become of significant use as I progress through my studies. Six months ago, I attended a Dementia Friends session which inspired me to further my knowledge of the condition and raise awareness for those affected by Alzheimer’s. Following this, I organised a family fun day to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society with the help of a group of students. Through this experience, I have been able to show that I am a determined individual with a passion to succeed and a real desire to help others by making a positive influence on their lives. Ambition, leadership, determination, confidence are only a few examples of the qualities that I have been able to amplify through this experience.
