In this article researchers from the department of Kinesiology; Athletics Department, Louisiana State University investigated, the effect of static stretching on sprint performance in collegiate track and field athletes. The authors use data collected from an experiment conduct on the athletes to identify how stretching impairs the collegiate athletes. Their research consisted of the athletes performing static stretches then sprinting distance 0-20m, 20-40m and 40m. The authors did this by composing a study where collegiate athletes were asked to perform a dynamic warm up, then engage in static stretching before running the dash. The results revealed that the athletes would perform slower after completing the static stretches. In relation to other article based on this area of research, the results found are similar providing reliability to the data collected. The findings displayed that participants who were slower generally had improved times after performing a static stretch. This investigation also focusses on stretching specific muscle areas such as the adductors in the thighs, knee extensor and ankle sole flexors. In relation to the results, the duration the participants had an acute effect on sprint time as shorter duration stretches provided faster times than longer duration stretches.
