Stem cell research One of the most widely contested topics in modern science concerns stem cells and their collection. Prior to 2006, most research was done on embryonic stem cells, introducing an ethical dilemma to many; in 2001, President George H.W. Bush signed an order to limit funding on embryonic stem cells (ESC). The debate has settled some since the introduction of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells, however, there are new questions that have arisen as a result of this new technology. There are many places where stem cells come from. Pluripotent stem cells can be found from human. There are a few main places where stem cells are found, bone marrow, blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscles, skin, and the liver. There are more than 35 trillion …show more content…
There are many pros to stem cells and how they can help us as humans. A big pro is that adults stem cells have low rejection rate, which means that no matter where you get these adult stem cells from they will most likely accept where they are placed and will get the job done. This also means that you can get adult stem cells from a body that isn’t even yours and will have a very high chance of working with your body. Another great thing about stem cells is they can help cure some many different diseases, from Parkinson’s Disease all the way up to spinal cord injuries. Stem cells are able to do this because the fact they are pluripotent cells. They can bind, fix, reattach any cells that are not able to do the job they were assigned. Stem cell research will help people learn more about the human bodies and therefor learning how to prevent all of these deceases that so many people are affected by, There are over 100 million people that could benefit from stem cell research. Stem cell research is only the beginning to finding new cures. This could change so many families lives just today. The more we learn about these the sooner we will be for finding a cure for cancer.
With all pros there has to be cons and there are some here with stem cells and stem cell research. The cost, the long term affect, disadvantages of adult stem cells, and a few
