Along with the horrible burden of segregation, he had to learn how to grow up while dealing with the mistreatment. So Steve is wrongfully accused of a crime ,and he is black and during this time everyone is very racist.so he is gonna experience a very unfair trial.His fate rest on the shoulders of his attorney,this is gonna be a very hard case to win. This is showing that the jury is very unjust.The police have no respect for Steve because when they go to ask him questions they automatically handcuff him. “Why are you handcuffing my son if you just want to ask him a few questions? … I’m coming with you!”(Myers 124). This shows just how much the officers see him as equal,and that no matter what they are handcuffing him and taking him in because they are lead to believe he is lying. The last day in the courtroom Steve finally stops worrying about winning the case, and tries to think more of family and stop worrying about the trial so much because he realizes that it's not looking good.So while he’s kinda waiting for the end so he can get carried away is the moment he seems to turn the other cheech and just face the consequences.This is when he finally realizes that because he is black this case will be very hard to turn around but still has the old thought about how unfair it is. When it looks like everything is about to fall on misses O’Brien looks back at her notes and shows everyone that her client is innocent and not proven guilty, therefore is free to go. After her testimony the jury finally realizes what happened and that they have been tricked in one very well thought out and arranged plead for the opposition.Then in the last moments of the trial the whole case is closed with the suspect not being Steve
