Rhetorical Analysis
Many people would think they cannot relate to someone as well known and with as much money and success Steve Jobs has however, he is one that can be heavily related to s he had to overcome adversity to become as successful as he was. In his incredibly intelligent and brilliantly written speech given to Stanford University, Graduating Class of 2005, Steve Jobs clearly articulates and emotionally inspires his audience through the use of symbolism, repetition and storytelling to persuade everyone to live their lives to the fullest.
Steve Jobs’ emotional and passionate speech establishes himself as an incredible storyteller. He quotes in his speech, “Truth be told I never graduated from college and this is the closest I’ve ever gotten to graduation. Today I want to tell you three stories from my life. That's it”. Clearly the idea of Steve Jobs incorporating this information into his speech was very important because it drew the attention of the audience. In his speech he states, “Beneath it were the words: Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wanted that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” Furthermore, Jobs' use of repetition was used to get the ultimate message across to his audience. He relayed this message, ‘stay hungry’ and ‘stay foolish’ over and over into their heads in order to make them want to succeed. Clearly, success comes from hard work and as an intelligent individual who became very successful the audience left with determination to work hard to become
