A stock character is a character that represents a stereotype that appears repeatedly but is also replaceable. We can see it exemplified in the play “The Haunted House by Plautus” The comedy also highlights the stock characters such as the arrogant soldier, named Miles Gloriosus who often brags about how brave he is but his boasting is almost as equal to his stupidity. Another stock character is the tricky slave named, Servus Callidus who happens to be very clever by outsmarting others including his Master.

Which tells the story of the rivalry between two twin brothers, Atreus and Thyestes. Atreus ends up killing Thyestes three younger sons and tricks Thyestes into eating them. This is similar to the human pie in Titus Andronicus. Violence was depicted multiple ways such as “Thyestes” portrays the main character Thyestes who is named after the title, three children being slaughtered, cooked and eaten as a stew. These horrific events are all under the plan of Thyestes brother, Atreus who is the uncle of these children. He does this in order to get revenge. The staging for the play “Thyestes” remains controversial because some scenes were too horrific to be staged. Many even argued the play was meant to be read instead of staged. As well at the language played a major role in deciding whether it should have been staged or read. Lysistrata was able to you use their weakness and felt the women of Greece had to stop the war in order to achieve tranquility for the country. Her plans were to ask the women to refuse sex from their husbands until a treaty for peace has been signed. In order to have power over the men Lysistrata thought of what their weakness was, which was sex. The art of seduction was enough to make these women's husbands discontinue the war. I found it interesting how Lysistrata used the stereotype of women and turn it into self empowerment through the form of sexuality.
