Stoicism: Philosophy that counsels self-control, detachment, and acceptance of one’s fate as identified by the objective use of reason. (pg. 187, Soccio, 2013) The stoics strongly believe in self-control and detachment. If you did not have personal attachments, and you kept everyone (for some it even meant themselves) at a “controlled” distance, than you and your feelings wouldn’t get hurt, and you would be fine. Now I will be honest and say that I have mixed feelings on this subject. On one hand, I do know what it is like to get hurt and then want to keep everyone at “bay” so to speak. But I also have found that it is better to open up to a “controlled” group of individuals who I know I can trust certain things to. But I feel like for the
