The village of Stone Park and the Stone Park Fire Department is a tiny tight knit community. The community even though it does not have a large area, it does have its fair share of threats that could potentially negatively affect the community. Just as other communities, funding is the main problem, if this village had a suffice amount of funding, then threats toward the fire department and the community addressed to create a safer community. Just as any other community, this community can receive grants from a wide variety of different sources. A range of certain threats that could affect the Stone Park Fire Department has an impact on the fire department in different ways. Internal threats can affect personnel, the firehouse, ways, etc. The department has resources available to reduce their threats, in addition, once they are available to address these issues then the fire department can address additional threats if applicable. External threats could include high flow traffic areas, low water pressure, and flooding. Safety is at the top of all fire departments, the personnel’s helmets/ turnout gear were still in working order and no damages, however, the National Fire Protection Association determine after the 10 years that personnel protective equipment should be retired. Firefighters deserve to have equipment that is up to par with the updated safety technology, especially in newer turnout gear (protect clothing the firefighters wear into fires) can limit the amount of burn injuries. The department wanted to follow this standard to retain the safety needs of the firefighters. To abide by the standard, this department received funds to purchase all need helmets.
