BOONE – Appalachian State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Stop Kiss” Sept. 29-Oct. 3, on campus at the Valborg Theatre. Performances Wednesday through Saturday begin at 7:30 p.m.; the matinee on Sunday begins at 2 p.m.
“Stop Kiss” is a play written by young American playwright Diana Son, known for her writing for television’s “Law & Order.” Within two days of opening, it had sold more than 85 percent of its tickets for its initial run. New York Times Theatre critic Ben Brantley called this play “sweet, sad and enchantingly sincere.”

For Callie and Sara, this includes, among other things, their desire to live deeply. “Stop Kiss” is about discovery, falling in love, overcoming adversity, and New York City. Callie and Sara make their way through a maze of unexpected detours, loves lost and found, abrupt violence and unlikely friendship. In the end, they learn that loving another has a price, but it is one worth paying.
Ray Miller directs the play; Paulette Marty is dramaturg. Michael Helms is scenery and lighting designer; Martha Marking is costume designer. Neil Reda is technical director.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for faculty/staff and seniors, and $6 for students and youth. The Box Office is open Monday-Friday from 2-5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m to 1 p.m., and one hour prior to each performance.
