On February 14th 2018 there was a tragic school shooting at Stoneman Douglas high school. The shooter was 19 year old Nikolas Cruz a former student of Stoneman Douglas. He was a trouble kid who had been expelled and had a temper everyone in the school knew it. Cruz had made comments on a video that he was going to be a professional school shooter. However there have been 18 school shootings this year but all of those weren’t on purpose like a guard accidently shot his gun.
The intelligent and strategic sniper has to protect his life by killing others, and even though his brother dies because of this he was correct in his decision to kill. The sniper enjoys very much his job and is willing to fight for the republican side,“They were deep and thoughtful, the eyes of a man who is used to looking at death.” (O’flaherty, 2). This shows that the sniper is committed to the job he is required to perform. He knows he is always exposed to death and is never safe, so he always uses his critical thinking and strategic planning to get out of a dangerous situation.
This question will go through every parent, teacher or other kid of staff mind every single day, wondering who will attack next. Moreover, what best if we are well armed to protect others, and ourselves but the reality is that not even with weapons our lives are secure, weapons will not stop school shootings. The problem starts with the person having issues with themselves and their surroundings and we need to make sure to have more support towards students with problems or that they mind feel left out somehow. Instead of fighting and worrying about making new rules for teachers to carry guns, they should really focus on their
There have been more school shootings in the past 8 years than theres has been in the past fifty years. School shootings have gotten out of control. Kids are scared to go to school because they don’t think they are safe. Most schools do intruder drills, but schools could be doing more. One possibility is arming teachers which would provide a good deterrent to school shootings.
One day, one child, one gun, one school. Now, as saddening as it is to admit, we live in a world where school shootings are a part of everyday life, and there is nothing being done to stop them. As most can recognize, most of the media is more focus on what the President is going to say after the shootings happen, rather than focusing on what we as a nation are going to do to stop these tragic events. There have been a few ideas when it comes to solving this issue, and truthfully, most of these ideas will fall flat on their faces; meanwhile, arming teachers seems to be a possible solution. Arming teachers will deter shooters, secure students fears from outside threats, and in the worst case scenario can stop a school shooter before they can commit mass murder.
“Since 2013 there has been an average of one school shooting a week in the U.S., and 18 since the beginning of this year. This is a horrific thing that is getting out of control in the U.S. When a gunman killed 20 first graders and six adults with an assault rifle at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, it rattled Newtown, Conn., and reverberated across the world. Since then, there have been at least 239 school shootings nationwide. In those episodes, 438 people were shot, 138 of whom were killed.it is time we bring awareness to this situation.
This should not be a worry for the child or parents but it has to be because at this point any school is a threat. So a possible factor in decreasing shootings is arming teachers, by doing this teachers can fight back instead of shielding or running from the shooter. Reason #2 teachers can defend their students by changing this law and using correct training teachers should be able to carry a weapon. By doing this not only insure safety it will give relief for parents all over the country. This tactic will give school staffs a chance to outnumber a possible shooter.
Due to my passion to help stop gun violence, I decided to do project, on preparing an effective gun violence speech more specifically formulating a speech for President Barack Obama. In this month alone in the United States, we have had more than three counts of mass shooting and of October 21st 2015, there was also another mass shooting in the United States. With so many shooting and death totals, gun violence has because a novelty because everyone citizens, public and the media all have their versions or opinions to the current situation. With gun violence being widespread, there are numerous accesses to information’s regarding gun in general and due to numerous accesses to information’s, the interested party has accesses to either conduct or explore a research.
These preventative actions can be taken in classrooms as well as in administrative bodies with different methods. For example, some methods for preventing a violent school shooting are to teach social and emotional ways of coping, which will allow students to relieve themselves from stressors that could cause violent actions and anger, as well as doctors should assess the mental health state of their patients for each visit, which will ensure that schools will be informed on whether students are facing a conflict mentally. Moreover, one other aspect that could allow a school shooting to be prevented is for parents to be actively involved in a student’s life and understand the factors that cause a person to be contemplating taking the lives of others via a school shooting. According to americanprogress.org, “Overall, 1 in every 20 victims of fatal mass shootings in the United States from 2006 to 2015 were killed in Virginia.” This amount could be greatly reduced if preventative action was taken.

The organization claimed that the school shooting at “[Marjory Stoneman Douglas High] is the 18th school shooting in the U.S. in 2018.’” (Cox and Rich). In less than three months, there have been eighteen school shootings. This shows that schools are no longer a safe environment.
School shootings are a reoccurring problem in the United States. As of 2018, there have been over 18 school shootings in America (Cuddy). However, this is nothing new to us. Every year they are countless reports of school shootings ending in injury or death. It should be obvious that schools are the safest place for parents to send their children during the day, the sad truth is, it is not.
Students today live their day-to-day lives in constant fear of what seems inevitable. The United States has one of the highests rates of school shootings in the world. Society has become so desensitized to these shootings that they are no longer shocked to hear about another school falling victim to it. Even when students take a stand against gun violence, the only solution offered to them is a proposition to arm teachers. However, bringing more guns into a school will only further deteriorate the situation.
