Medicine is an ever evolving field that encompasses preventative, diagnostic, strategic and therapeutic interventions on a multi-disciplinary platform for the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the patient. This is a dynamic, robust and challenging career that really appeals to me as it affords me opportunity to interact with patients, work on varying cases and be an integral member of the team.

I undertook my degree in Stratified Medicine as a gateway to Medicine, because the ethos of stratified medicine is that nothing can being analysed or treated in isolation, often disease is complex and multifaceted and thus a drive for a more tailored and personalised approach is an invaluable asset to medicine. I was successful in securing a Wellcome Trust Summer Scholarship which gave me the opportunity to pitch and secure a Cardiovascular research project at the Clinical Translational and Innovative Centre at Altnagelvin Hospital, Londonderry. I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of working with patients, forming research design and protocols, statistical analysis and interpretation. Throughout this project, I was driven with the passion to investigate disease at the cellular and molecular level and translate results to patient level, always with patient outcome foremost in my mind. I gained valuable experience working with various clinicians, scientists, statisticians and fellow students which made me understand the complexities of translating research into clinical practice. I believe my studies combined with my research experience add an invaluable insight into the complexities of patient treatment from such as areas as, pharmacokinetics and dynamics, to intra and inter-individual patient variation, to genetic and cellular abnormalities and risk
