Many people believe that it is unrealistic to help someone in a critical situation if it puts themselves in danger; however there are both good and bad consequences that lead these people to decide whether making the bold decisions of helping others, even if it puts themselves at risk, would be worth it in the end. People who don’t help others should be punished because they don’t fulfill their ethical responsibility and someone could lose their life because of it. If we see someone who needs help, do we stop? There is so much suffering and poverty out there. In the article “ Can the law make us be decent” by Jay Sterling Silver, the author have talked about how oblivious people should get punished for not required to do anything to help when someone is in danger. People should be punished for not assisting others in an emergency because someone life will be at risk if there’s no help.
Metelanski 2 lied about the scores and then he apologized but in reality he meant to do it because as he stated it “It was for extra credit”. Robert’s point of view on this research was simply “trolling” the people that he did the reasearch on about their “IQ” testing. Later in the story he also gives the test to his Mom and Dad and little did you know he lied to them about the test scores as well. Once again in my opinion Robert’s research did not bring any ethical value to the point of even doing that research. He tested multiple people basically lying to them about their scores and taking advantage of people in order to get extra credit for his “How to be a cop” class.
All the conflicting feelings would just overwhelm the person until they make their final decision. In the end, this woman who ended up turning her kid into the cops said: "it wasn't something she wanted to do but was something she had to do"(Smith 1). As a person who knows about the crime that her son committed she felt an obligation to turn him in for his own good and society's safety. Overall helping out a family member who has committed a crime is no good for anyone. It is no good for the person who committed it
The Limits of Reason Over time people have evolved to use reason and logical explanations to solve problems rather than spiritual beliefs. Before humans began relying on rational thought, they based their actions off of the belief of gods and fate. An example of someone relying solely on reason in the age of gods and goddesses is The Fox in Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold. This character, The Fox, in Till We Have Faces: A Myth Retold by C. S. Lewis relies on reason to solve complicated situations which may limit him mentally from other possible solutions and may also be evident in today’s culture.
Would you do the right thing even if it meant putting yourself in danger? Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn were in a graveyard trying to get rid of their warts, with the help of a dead cat and a evil, rich man’s grave, and they came upon three men entering the graveyard. These men were Dr. Robinson, Injun Joe and Muff Potter. They were there to steal the gold in the very grave, but a fight busted out between them and Injun Joe killed Dr. Robinson after Potter was knocked unconscious. Once Muff Potter woke up, Injun Joe convinced the confused drunk that he had blacked out and killed Dr. Robinson.
In society, people should be ethically responsible with helping people. People act ethically responsible when one is in need of assistance because they let their sympathetic feelings of compassion take over their intentions. Ethical responsibility is a duty or obligation to ensure the individual’s well-being through specific commitments; such as saving someone from a certain tragedy. One piece of evidence from the text that demonstrates the sudden acts of ethical responsibility is “Can the Law Make Us Be Decent” by Jay Sterling Silver. Though many may argue that Silver’s argument is invalid, most will agree that his argument is in fact agreeable.
The Deferred Action for Parents of Americans is an executive action President Barack Obama plans on implementing in order to try and control illegal immigration. Its main goal is to deport illegal immigrants back to their home country who have a criminal history while providing those with a clean record an opportunity “to temporarily stay in the U.S. without fear of deportation” (). A way to be more conducive to an effective change in immigration policies would be to change the acceptance date to January 1st, 2000. DAPA, or also known as the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, is an initiative requested by President Barack Obama that “would provide approximately 5 million illegal aliens access to work permits and social security cards”
In Al Gore’s “The Assault on Reason,” many topics are presented to get his argument across. Gore’s thesis is not fully revealed in the essay, but one can infer it is about the people needing to wake up and realize what is happening. He wants people to ask questions, get reasoning, be a fully informed citizen. For example, Gore states "More and more people are trying to figure out what has gone wrong with our democracy, and how we can fix it." (Gore 9)
Families that are poor or have a low income are more likely to commit crimes for the purpose of their own needs to survive. “It is a fact that neighborhoods where the poor are concentrated are more prone to high crime rates, and poor residents are the most common victims of crimes” (1). The best explanation for this is that poorer people have the same needs as a regular middle-class citizen. The poor citizens need certain things to help him or her live a healthy life, such as healthcare, food stamps, and more employment options. One may argue that healthcare is too expensive and that food stamps have been taken away from many people.
