Stress disorders associated with a hostage situation-1

Being taken as a hostage is never a good situation for one reason it can cost an individual to go into an emotional state and also psychological effects on a person, which manifest in changes in behavior. One such known stress disorder in which an individual can develop from being taken hostages is Stockholm syndrome. This type of disorder only occurs as the hostages become identify with the hostage takers and aligns himself with the hostage taker.

One of the first stages in which a hostage goes through is denial. The reason for this is they feel as the traumatic event has not taken place. So they put it in their mind as dream and not reality. They may do this in the form of reading a passage from a book or magazine over and over.

The crisis may linger on without any type of closer or resolution in sight; this may cause the hostage to go into the final stage, from busy works which consist of taking stock of one’s life. The whole concept of this stage is the hostages begin to analyze the people in his life and the choices He has made. The hostage vows to do things differently in the future in an attempt to change for the better.

Other issue that are associated with stress disorders may come in the form acute stress disorder which in turn refers to the anxiety and behavioral disturbances that develop within the first month after exposure to an extreme trauma. An example of this is PTSD which is the abbreviation for Post Traumatic Syndrome
