Have you ever been hospitalized or even had to visit a doctor's office for care? Have you ever thought about how they decided to structure the management in their office to provide you with the exceptional or otherwise care you may have received? You may have visited a doctor's office or hospital numerous times but have never considered how their nurse management systems were structured. Many nursing models have been developed throughout the years. Nursing models were designed to help organizations achieve functional goals while meeting their missions and visions.

First, the primary nurse reports to a nurse manager or clinical nurse specialist (CNS), who provides leadership, guidance, and support for the primary and associate nurses. Second, the primary nurse communicates regularly with the associate nurses, who share information and feedback about the patient's condition and progress. Third, the primary nurse and the associate nurses collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, pharmacists, and social workers, who are part of the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for the patient. Finally, the primary nurse establishes a therapeutic relationship with the patient and the family based on attunement, wondering, following, and holding. A starking advantage of the Primary nursing model is that it allows patients to identify who their nurse is. This takes us back to Peplau's interpersonal relational theory, where nurses and their patients can have a nurse-patient relationship. A nurse-patient relationship can help alleviate a patient's helplessness and hopelessness. Therefore, it helps build working relationships between nurses and patients, resulting in personalized care and increased patient satisfaction. Primary care nursing promotes rapport and relationship building. Therefore, the primary nursing care model would be ideal for providing a therapeutic milieu for patients during their hospitalizations. In addition, it helps ensure patients receive quality care, and misdiagnosis and unnecessary treatments can be avoided since the nurse will know the needs of their patients and relay information to the interdisciplinary team involved in the patient's care.
