The story ‘’The House on Mango Street’’ has many struggles within each character. The author Sandra Cisneros explains her struggles in this story as a character named Esperanza. The main characters are Mama, Papa, Carlos, Kiki, Nenny, and Esperanza. The story is the about Esperanza and her family moving to house to house looking for the perfect house. Their struggles are Poverty, Language barrier, and Education to get to their American Dream. Esperanza’s family struggled with Poverty. They lacked money to get a perfect house they dreamed of. Mama and Papa did find a house but it was not as Esperanza predicted. In the story Doc A paragraph 5 Esperanza said that the house was really small and everyone had to share one room including Mama and Papa. Their family lacked money to move again so Esperanza and her family had to stay on the house on Mango Street. …show more content…

Her family did not know how to speak English so they struggled with life on Mango Street. In Doc C paragraph 7 it said that Esperanza’s father only knew one English word and that was ‘’Ham and Eggs.’’ They also didn’t want to speak English because it was too much work and they didn’t have time either. This was a really big obstacle in Esperanza and her family’s way. Lastly Esperanza family faced Education as a struggle in her life. Esperanza and her family didn’t have a lot of education because of the moving and the family. In Doc B paragraph 4 it states that Esperanza’s mom had dropped out because of family matters such as too many children to take care of. This is important because to do things in life you need to have education help do these things like getting a job to make money. Esperanza’s American Dream was blocked by this struggle and it will take time to get over this struggle or hurdle. Plus it helps to have education when pursing your
