I personally believe this quote is very powerful in that it is a great reference for today’s society. The student in the video is a Harvard graduate that overcame multiple obstacles. One obstacle this particular student had to go through was being accepted to this renowned university. As we are aware legal status is a requirement for numerous universities. Despite her legal status it did not impede her dream of attending such a prestigious university. The quote says a female student viewed education as an opportunity. I think there are many people in general who take many things for granted when others would like to have that opportunity. For instance, DACA students who want to continue their education but cannot because of their legal status. Or in this case the valedictorian student who would take advantage of the education she received at Harvard. In the quote it mentions each student learned something new from their interaction with other students. One thing I have noticed from students when they embrace diversity is that it teaches them to be tolerant towards others. Not to mention students develop better socialization skills. Students become aware that each student is different from one another and learn to value a person for who they are rather than their ethnic background. I am a personal advocate for diversity I think every student can work effectively together. Each mind is a different world and should be valued. As a future educator, I think we should emphasis the importance of collaboration. In the video I was really intrigued by the fact that the school took the time to allow students to discover different countries from all around the world.
