The new program that Ashford University has to offer for first year graduate students was developed to help increase student learning. The name of the course is, Student Learning Outcomes. This course will help students practice writing scholarly papers properly. They will learn how to work with APA and remain motivated with their arguments. This course is not optional and it is only offered to first year graduate students. Undergraduate students are provided a course similar to this, but are not allowed to take this course. However if there are students who are coming back to Ashford to work on their Masters, then they will have the chance to take this course and utilize it wisely. They will understand the proper use of APA usage and will master this format in six weeks.
• Inquiry: Students will be eligible to use multiple resources that are scholarly articles only. If he or she uses wiki they automatically fail the assignment. Each student will have the opportunity to explore questions and will get their answers through proper research.
• Practice: Students will have the opportunity to apply professional and personal knowledge that will allow him or her to be secure about their perspectives. It fills student needs and helps them to become successful scholarly students. This course works well with assessing students. The procedure for this course alone wraps around Ashford University’s prior learning assessment. At the end of the course students will be asked to write a experiential essay. They will be able to demonstrate and understand the learning process of aligning experience that can be professional or personal with the learning outcomes that Ashford University has to offer for each student. This essay needs to be a graduate level paper that follows the rubric. Ashford University states, “students applying for PLA credit through the experiential essay process must first successfully complete the experiential learning course EXP 200 Fundamentals of Adult Learning” (n.d., para.3). The students must know that the EXP 200 is a third credit division elective course in which students explore the concepts and process of experiential learning and learn and must be required for this course.
