This experiment is called jumping Pop Rocks. You first fill a glass with water that is 140 degrees fahrenheit. Then you pour the Pop Rocks into the glass. Since the Pop Rocks are infused with carbon dioxide they will tend to jump at the bottom of the glass, or maybe even reach the top of the glass once they dissolve.
My experiment is elephant toothpaste were foam shoots out of a container or glass. I chose this experiment because I thought it would be fun to see foam shoot out of a bottle. Our first method was to weigh the glass by putting it in a graduated cylinder of water and placing the glass inside and to observe the lever to with the water rose after first recording the original state of the water. The second test we preformed was to measure the glass and use it’s dimensions to determine the density. This procedure taught me how problem solve effectively and scientifically using information I previously learned in both chemistry and mathematics and applying it to this problem. This also gave me the ability to test the effectiveness of my experiment and decide which one was more proficient at producing an accurate test of the density of the glass. My project is about how temperature and air pressure affect the distance a football can be thrown. When the air is warmer the molecules move faster and spread apart, therefore making the air pressure lower and making the ball lighter. But when the air is cooler the molecules move slower and move closer together, making the air pressure higher making the ball
During the experiment, observations were made of their color, mass, height, and width. This data shows percent mass change of the gummy bear and how the gummy bear was affected by the salt water. It also displays how the height and the width of the gummy bear changed because of the salt water, which made the gummy bear more compact. The more salt that was added to the distilled water, the more compact it was, however, if there was not a lot of salt in the mixture, it became large and fragile. The mass of the gummy bear was increased as a result of less salt being added with the distilled water.
The null hypothesis of this research is that the gases (helium, nitrogen, argon, and CO2) will have no effect on the football hang time. This study’s alternate hypothesis is if a football is filled with a gas lighter than air (helium and nitrogen), then the football will have a longer hang time; and if a football is filled with a gas heavier than air (argon and CO2), then the football will have a shorter hang time. Since the first experiment results were nullified because of an error in the PSI of the football, the second experiment results led the researcher to reject the null hypothesis. There is enough evidence to support that footballs filled with gases lighter than air will have a longer hang time and footballs filled with gas heavier than air will have a shorter hang time. The reason to make this claim is that the researcher found that gases lighter than air (helium and nitrogen) had longer mean hang times and gases heavier than air had shorter mean hang times in Table 2 and because of the error bars in Graph 2, it showed significant differences between the means.
This is because the hot air inside the balloon is less dense than the cool air outside. The heated air will rise simply because it is lighter than an equal volume of cold air.
