An important study that should be conducted is substance abuse, although there has already been plenty of research involving substance abuse there are two new substance that are taking a rise in the military. Accumulating new data has many different challenges since no other research has been taken on new drugs, while research has been done on illicit drugs people are still finding innovative ways to get high. To eliminate road blocks, having accurate information about sociodemographic characteristics of active duty personnel, trends, factors and sociodemographic characteristics of substance users will help having a precise study. These two substances are bath salts and spice, even though there is some understanding what can occur while using these substance, it is still unfamiliarly in the military world. This provides the most recent data about substance abuse, even though these surveys are anonymous service members still could provide false information. Collecting false information could give untruthful study and gives research an untrue baseline for future studies. Understanding the characteristics of the military population can gain an appropriate context for substance use in the military (Moore). The challenges that are faced when collecting this information is having enough participants and a sufficient amount time of time in between. In the reading, looking at the tables it shows research taken from 1980 to 2008 giving researcher enough information to compare gender, race, education, age, family and rank and the volume of alcohol or illicit drugs being used.
