On the Edge Suicide is often perceived as one of the most selfish acts a human being can perform. It is a desperate act committed not by those who wish to die, but by those who want their pain to stop. What seems to be a permanent solution to a temporary problem is not the only solution that exists, but it is rather the only option they are currently able to see. While it remains mysterious and undeciphered, suicide continues to be one of the most serious health concerns that leaves people wondering about the misery that forces a person to commit such a cruel act to his or her own being. Chronic illness is a sickness that lasts for a long time and often cannot be completely cured. People with chronic illness have to adapt a new, healthy way to cope with the illness and maintain a regular, stable lifestyle. Chronic illness can be very humiliating, controling people's lives and limiting their independence and mobility, in addition to restricting them to certain ways of living. People with chronic illness suffer from the inability to enjoy life by all means due to the sacrifices they have to make in order to survive. People (especially young people) who suffer from cancer, cardiovascular diseases, brain tumors, seasures, diabities, high blood pressure, obesity, arthritis, and any other chronic disease are more likely to commit suicide because they cannot accomodate with having to adjust their goal of life from living like normal people to obtaining as much time as possible in life. It is no secret, however, what a serious health condition can do to a person; in addition to making him or her extremely depressed and agitated, it takes away the desire to fight for life gradually as time passes. Violence is often misunderstood among some people; it is perceived as a better way to deal with tough situations within the household; whereas in fact, the truth is quite the opposite. There is no problem in the world that violence does not make worse. Violence puts the family in a chaotic state and creates an unfriendly environment that is full of hatred, grudges, and terror. Violence scoops out people's natural abilities to function efficiently in their every-day tasks and turns them into antagonistic, emotionless, aggressive people who are nothing but a source of deviance in the society. Violence dimineshes people's self-esteam and confidence and steals their comfort, freedom, happiness, and most importantly, the reason to live. People who have been subject to violence or abuse often suffer emotional and psychological trauma from being abused by their parents, consequentially causing them to develop a sense of worthlessness, vulnerability, and abandonment. Those who have been subject to violence or sexual abuse may feel ashamed, disgraced, and unsafe when surrounded by people, so they avoid social interaction with them and think of suicide as an ultimate solution to get rid of the stigma and fear that always accompany them. People who have been abused or exposed to violence in their early stages of development are more likely to commit suicide due to the fact that they are unable to deal with life like
