Suicide exists everywhere in the world. It is a devastating reality that most of the world is unaware of or refuses to acknowledge. It can affect anyone no matter their age, gender, or race. The body of this paper will discuss the topic of suicide and its effects on the population in a specific demographic and address solutions to reduce suicidal behavior.
Suicide affects every demographic on the planet. Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States (Suicide Statistics). Anyone from children to the elderly are not immune to suicidal thoughts and/or suicide. Each demographic is impacted but some are more prone to successfully committing suicide. The vision of this framework is to reduce or eliminate suicide as an option by improving the quality of life of those attending a university. Those suffering from mental illness will get the treatment needed to recover and those who are not suffering from mental illness will be able to live a better quality of life through greater community initiatives. The healthcare professionals, counselors, community leaders will be more closely connected to streamline the patient transfer process and optimize success (Shephard, 2015). After assessing the needs of the community, the individuals most affected are people with mental illness. Some cases of depression require medical treatment but most cases for young adults are due to everyday stressors from work and other responsibilities. Promoting greater social involvement through physical activity and event planning should improve sense of well-being.
