To the pond and back-to the pond and back-nearly a full day of walking altogether. This was Nyas daily routine seven months of the year” (20). This quote shows that Nya has a hard everyday life where she has to walk eight hours, nearly the whole day getting water for her family. The water that Nya gathers for her family is not clean it is very muddy and dirty and gets them sick, but they have to drink it to live. Another quote in ALWTW is “Men and woman, boys and girls, old and young, walking, walking, walking…. (23). “Salva had never been so hungry” (23). These quotes prove that Salva is persevering because he is walking and walking while starving but he doesn't stop even though he doesn't know where they are walking and he doesn't want to leave his family
