After reading the novel Revolutionary Mothers I have gained significant knowledge and a better grasp of the Revolutionary war. Carol Berkin 's purpose in writing this book was a simple one: Presenting a series of lenses of various raced women and how they affected and were effected by the Revolutionary War. She presents how women of every skin color was a major factor during the war and ultimately in aiding the formation of our nation. A major difference between this novel and what I have previously learned is that this novel magnifies contributions women have made for this country. Furthermore the textbooks that I read once in class greatly minimize those contributions and just give a broad overview of them.

This is the story of Adam Cooper, a dynamic character who is learning a lot about life and the secrets that adults harbor. Over the course of one day this immature boy learns many lessons and becomes a mature man.
I read “Revolutionary Mothers” by Carol Perkins. Berkins tells the many different stories of women throughout the Revolutionary War and the struggles and strives each women faced and overcame. She introduces us to women from all different backgrounds and their own personal stories that have so greatly affected our history today. Throughout the book Berkins shows how large of a role women played during this time period, even though it is often overlooked. Without the courage and bravery from these women during this time period we would have not been able to secure our independence from Britain.

In the course of two days, He meets a variety of interesting characters both before the battle has started and during the battle and one character that really stuck out was Solomon Chandler.

The novel April Morning by Howard Fast is the story of a young 15-year-old, Adam Cooper. He recounts the battles of Lexington and Concord during the Revolutionary War through his eyes. In the course of a day, the people of Lexington’s life’s as they have known it are changed. The father of Adam, a man with high principles and a leader among the Lexington Committeemen, Moses Cooper; he is a character who is strict and loving father to his family and a leader to the community.
Women participated in the military services, got the education to work in skilled labour so that they did much better than before and received popular recognition step by step because of their own hard work. “You learn a lot from living in with a group of girls; we were all much enriched by the experience. Women played numerous roles in the American Revolution. One role was, they picked up on some of the mens jobs. According to document 2 it states, “With their husbands away fighting, some women had to take over as weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths, or shipbuilding.” This indicates how compassionate women were during the war. They did lots of important jobs/tasks to help.
Even some women would go so far to gather money to put clothes on the soldier’s back or sew their clothes. Others would travel with the men, whether it is camp followers, who were women who washed, cooked, nursed, sew, gather supplies, and even in some cases be sex partners or spies. Women dressed up as men and changed their name to fight as a soldier, or General’s wives who just wanted to be with their husbands like Martha Washington or Caty Greene. Not only do we see the point of the war through the women’s eyes that resisted British rule, but also from the eyes of Frederika von Residesel whose husband, Fritz Residesel, who fought for Britain. Indian women also felt the effects of the war, because they thought that “if America won their social roles would be changed and their power within their communities diminished” (Berkin.107).
By using outsider’s perspectives in the novel Broken April, Ismail Kadare, the author, displays how life in the HP and Kanun is so disconnected from the rest of the world and gives insight into the social norms and violent culture. These perspectives are employed to give a view into the author’s own perspective on the harsh culture. Via characters like Bessian and Diana, the readers are shown the wide range of outlooks into the HP culture. Other than that, the Doctor and Surveyor are used to show their long-lasting effect on the culture. Kadare using these perspectives helps the readers understand the HP much better, as it gives them a point of view in which they can relate.
When their husbands went away for war women had to take over businesses and farms, defend their homes, serve meals and cook for the continental army even some of them were on the battlefields as nurses and soldiers. The war showcased the social significance of women and it showed how some tasks that were considered feminine like spinning became highly appreciated. It also gave them an opportunity to show what they can really do. Women wanted to do things like own businesses but socially that was unacceptable so they fought for their civil rights which allowed gender classification to no more be a thing.
Women were well suited for providing nourishment and necessities for the army due to their skills obtained by their accustomed housework. “...the American army often recruited the many female camp followers to fill these jobs” (Brooks 2013, para. 17). They had slowly began to achieve recognition in society, especially war. It was then, that woman had begun to silently “protest” on having the same equal opportunity as men. During the war, women created a role for themselves to side amongst the male soldiers: a secret soldier.

In the novel “The Wars” by Timothy Findley, Findley explores the role of women that played a prime role alongside with Robert Ross. The two most significant women in this novel is Robert’s mother, Mrs.Ross and Marian Turner, Robert’s nurse. Marian Turner is a nurse in the War, her role is greatly emphasized when Robert is doubtlessly burned severely. She nursed Robert, she is Robert’s life line.
