What is a leader? Who is a leader? How do you know what a leader looks like? The term ‘leadership’ has acquired a pseudo-mystical vagueness in recent years, with it bandied about in the same circles where words like ‘dynamic’, ‘paradigm’, and ‘synthesis’ are used, often with the same lack of specificity and mysterious connotations. It is clearly something to be desired, however anything more specific than that is difficult to gather from the ways in which this seemingly unambiguous word is used. Courage is described as having the strength both mentally and physically to do something that most people could not do. It is imperative for a leader to have courage because as a leader, they have to make decisions that are dangerous or harmful. It takes true courage to not only make the decision but also to fulfill it. You can teach a leader to do many things, yet, without believing in themselves, it can’t be called true leadership. As a confident leader, you never put people down. You’re not afraid to show your own insecurities or fault others for theirs. Having confidence means your actions are based on your beliefs and having strong feeling for what you stand for. Confident leaders avoid self-promotion and feel comfortable being themselves.
