It is the basic law of humanity, to say that no man woman or child should be subjugated or degraded by another human. In Flora Jessops (2009) book “ Church of Lies”, we are shown the absolute horror and maltreatment that one must endure when held captive in a hostile polygamist group. ‘Keep sweet or you will go to hell’, a phrase that nobody in the polygamist groups of FLDS will ever forget, for perfect servitude results in perfect faith. According to the leaders of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FDLS) women …show more content…

The FDLS, which is rarely known or spoken about, is led by Warren Jeffs. FLDS controls the lives of its brainwashed followers around the idea of Polygamy. The current leader convinced himself and his people men had to have at least three wives in order to gain access into heaven, and the more the merrier a majority of the time their spouse being their own family. Although I am not a mother, I cannot even begin to imagine even allowing a child I don't even know let alone my own child. I know that my mother would literally kill my father if he laid his hands on me in an inappropriate manner. For this women to be so brainwashed to continually let people take her child's life into their hands knowing that those hands would hurt her. I don’t understand how the women in polygamy go through the same struggle, yet still can subject the children they were supposed to love into the hazardous cycle that is polygamy. I also don't understand how one can be okay with having their younger sister as their sister wife, like Flora’s mother, or many other women in a plural relationship. The concept of having children with your half brother, or marrying your own cousin is absolutely disgusting. These women's main purpose is to have children and when they come out all funny because they are inbred they are punished saying its the work of the devil.
I want to finish this off on a positive note, Flora Jessop is a role model for so many young children in the FLDS community and thanks to her so many children are trying and successfully escaping the wrath of this terrible group. She is now living a successful life with a great husband and two beautiful children who don't have to suffer like their mother
