Polygamy is the practice of marriage which a person get into it with two or more opposite-sex partners simultaneously, is alive and well. In more than three-quarters of the world known societies there is social approval of polygamy and men may even be encouraged to take two or more wives. Just a few decades ago it was estimated that about 35 per cent of all men in traditional cultures of Africa practised polygamy. Welch and Glick’s (1981) account of polygamy in contemporary African cites the prevalence of polygamy to be about 20-3 polygamists per 100 married men. Why? Because the Bible present monogamy as the plan of marriage that conforms closely to God’s ideal when looking at side of marriage. Christian’s belief that according to the Bible original God’s intention was that of one man has to be married to one woman, looking at different scripture from the Bible like in Genesis 2: 24, it says “for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh”. Genesis 2: 24 it describes how and what marriage is and it uses singular to show that the marriage is not for many people meaning that it should not involve more than two people. In Deuteronomy 17: 14-20, God says that kings were not supposed to multiply wives, horses or gold. This scripture cannot be interpreted that God commanded to be monogamous; it can be declared that having more than one wife causes problems and this can be seen in the life of Solomon in 1 Kings 11: 3-4. However, I still maintain my point in favour of polygamy in a Christian perspective because there are several scriptures in the Bible as well that advocates for polygamy which are Genesis 9:7 which says “be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on earth” this scripture tells that humanity show grow hence, polygamy enables much faster expansion og humanity, fulfilling God’s command. In addition a man is capable of impregnating multiply women in the same period of time. In Genesis 4:19 it state as follows “Lamech married two women which were Adah and Zillah”. Several prominent men in the Bible were polygamists, like Solomon who had multiply waves. Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines according to 1 Kings 11:
