“Common Ground” by Justin Trudeau was published in 2014. This book was written by Justin Trudeau in hopes to show Canadians what he truly believes in as a Canadian and what his future plans are for this great country. Also, what he would like to change as the PM of Canada. It also talks about many aspects of his life from growing up in Ottawa when his father was the PM of Canada up until him joining the liberal party. This review will mainly focus on the issues Justin Trudeau mentions in his book that he feels strongly towards as a Canadian and as a leader of liberal party of Canada.

It is a big challenge and it would take some hard work in getting the youth involved and developing their interest in Canadian politics. After returning from B.C Justin Trudeau got involved in a study with his colleagues where he found out youth’s views on Canadian politics and on the liberal party. The goal of their study was to generate ideas on how to get the young Canadians motivated to vote liberals. However, after listening to hundreds of young people, the main challenge was not to get the youth to vote for liberals but how to get them to vote at all. His study concluded that unless young Canadians started voting, the outcome of elections is going to only get worse. One of the recommendations their report made was to engage youth in the issues they feel passionately about. Education, the environment, foreign policy, and the protection of individual rights were some of the issues important to youth. The report suggested that it would be a great idea to get them involved early on by conducting mock elections in high schools on the same day as real federal elections. His continuous efforts towards getting youth involved led him to introduce M-299 which would create a national policy for youth volunteer service. This shows Justin Trudeau’s genuine desires for a better Canada. In today’s world most politicians or leaders would only do something which will benefit their own party where as Justin Trudeau’s approach wanted to benefit youth as well as motivate them to be a part of Canadian politics and come forward with the issues that concern them and make a difference. In the book it was clear that other parties showed almost no interest in Canadian youth and when they rejected M-299, it became very clear to Justin Trudeau that there was going to be a lot more work done in that area.
