The upcoming authors Jonathan Haidt, George Lakoff, and Maria Konnikova argue how candidates influence the voters support through political strategies. Haidt argues how the understanding of morality drive people to be more open minded. He also claims that although liberals and conservatives value morals differently they are to work together as one. Lakoff talks about how specific diction, ‘framing’, evokes frames and leads people to think a certain way. He recognizes that candidates’ physical traits play an important role during elections; candidates receive a greater amount of support depending on their features, disregarding their attributes and political skills. The voters judgment tends to be more accurate with no visual data, not giving the physical appearance importance or affecting the voting decision( Konnikova 23). Konnikova states how instinctive reaction of candidates drive voters to well reason their decisions. The voters strongly judge candidates through their appearances, “Our rankings of faces came down to two principal components: valence, or trustworthiness, and dominance” (Konnikova 23). Konnikova claims the voters most important characteristics they look for in a candidate is “competence and basic facial features”. Lakoff claims that for people to gain a more effective understanding the speaker/candidate has to speak in frames. He also argues that the key for a candidate to influence a voter is to use specific language that will create a greater connection and give them a better understanding. Furthermore, Konnikova explains how physical appearances affect the candidates support, the more appealing the features of a candidate the higher the number of supporters.
