“Family is the center of everyday American life. Our parents are our first protectors, first teachers, first role models, and first friends. Parents know that America’s great reward is the quiet but incomparable satisfaction that comes from building their families a better life.” Having a dysfunctional family where both parents are not present and one is present can affect a child’s life and the way they approach things because they have no one to talk to or advise them on certain

Q1.3 Explain the impact of adolescent development on a young person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours A1.3 Adolescence is a time of great change for young people when physical changes are happening at an accelerated rate. Puberty is accompanied by physical, psychological and emotional changes adapted to ensure reproductive and parenting success. But adolescence is not just marked by physical changes – young people are also experiencing cognitive, social/emotional and interpersonal changes as well. It marks a transition in risks for depression and other common mental disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders and anti social behaviours. As they grow and develop young people are influenced by outside factors, such as their environment, culture, religion, school and the media.
These pressures are from the adolescent’s surroundings, family, and friends. Adolescents are at an age in which they are vulnerable, and being as vulnerable
The children learned basic norms and values from the parents. The parents supply the economic needs for the child such as foods and education (ResviseSociology, 2014). In a family, different person performs different role and function such as a mother should take care of her child. The important is the child can feel the love and support from their parents (Gordon, 1997). Family dysfunction may appear in broken families, violent families and divorced families, etc.
One criterion that makes an excellent parent is that they give their children advice that is useful including but not limited to their current difficulties. The parent can give the help that the child needs but doesn’t solve the problem, allowing the child to deal with his or her own situation with the help and advice of their parents. The child can use that advice and use it for different situations and tolerate it. Another criterion that makes a satisfactory parent is that they treat their children equally and doesn’t favor one child over another because of their differences. The children will also learn to treat other people equally like how their parent did.
Parents play a major role in a child’s life. Parents affect how their child behaves and who they become as they grow older. The ideal parent should be an attentive listener, have a positive attitude and love their child unconditionally. Firstly, I think that parents should always listen to their kids no matter what or else they will feel neglected.
He believes that a teen’s primary motivation for behavior is their social affiliation with others. During adolescent years, development of personality and behavior is at its most prominent. The ultimate goal of this theory is for teenagers to establish a personal
Families can be regarded as the foundation of society. For Fleetwood (2012: 1), the importance of families is highlighted by the fact that it would be difficult to comprehend a society that could function without them. In addition, even though families and their compositions vary across societies and cultures, the family can be viewed as a universal social institution (Macionis & Plummer, 2012: 625. Specifically, according to Macionis and Plummer (2012: 625) and Neale (2000:1), it has the ability to unite individuals into cooperative groups via social bonds (kinship) and is ultimately experienced differently from individual to individual. However, the family can be a source of conflict, tension and inequality, which is why one of the key practices
Some teenagers are having sex. Some teenagers start working during this time. Some teenagers later in adolescences start college application and prepare for graduations. I believe that the adolescence stage covers so much and is a huge transition. I decided to talk about several important changes
We all know that parents, since the child is born, are always by their child’s side since they share a same home and should be the one to monitor their children while he or she is growing up. David P. Farrington (Farrington, n.d) stated that family factor, poor parental child-rearing methods especially lack of guidance and control from parents, is the most common answer when people are asked about the main cause of crimes. Moreover, according to Lieb Roxanne (1994), family components can predict an early sign of delinquency. Some weak way of predictions are based on the socioeconomic status of the family, and the less affection of the child to parents. However, the lack of guidance and letting the child to feel being unwanted is a strong predictor or root of
Keeping the lines of communication between parents and teens is also important. Parents should stay with them, talk to them and help them overcome this period. Be a teacher, a friend to listen and be willing to help teens. The youth needs to know that family and friends support and love them. Hope is needed more than judgment at this this time.
