Steinbeck was raised in Salinas Valley and moved to New York City in 1925 where he wrote The Grapes of Wrath. 4) Major: Tom Joad- Tom is a tall man who Honest- Joad is a very forward men. When Jim found out that the Joad family only have a decent paying job was to break a worker’s strike he organized the migrants to protest. Casy believed so much that ending the migrants suffering was what he was made to do and he was willing to give up his life. Pa Joad- Pa Joad is a caring man who is the family leader. Thoughtful- Pa Joad is always looking out for others before himself. When the Joads and everyone else is kicked off the land by the bank Pa takes his family to California. Pa Joad could of fought for the land where they lived and grew up on but instead of staying he decided to take his family to California to find a better life than the one they were living before. She dreams of having the perfect life with her husband and her baby. Brave- Rose of Sharon was a very brave and strong woman who after what happened she got back up. In the story after Rose got sick she quickly went into labor and she gave birth to a baby who arrived stillborn. Rose was strong and brave she got back up and didn’t let this break her. Thoughtful- After Rose stillborn baby arrived the Joads moved to a barn where they find a dying man and a young boy. The man was so sick he could not digest any solids so Rose decided to feed the man with the milk she had. Rose was not thoughtful of using what she had to save someone’s life instead of just thinking about herself and about the pain of losing a child she was strong.
